Duplicity

A wanabe movie,more like stupidicity

Imagine a movie with a dash of ‘Mr and Mrs Smith’ at the beginning, ‘Wall Street’ without the greed, shot in ‘Ocean 11′ style (colours and music ) without the wittiness, but all in a rather relaxed(not humorous) play-back manner.Very much wanabe and very much wana inject the seriousiness in the movie, afterall what they managed to earn is peanuts and what they planned to earn is rather pitiful with regards of the grandeur of their scheme.I had mine in a cinema with 100% attention on it,on a weekday, not bad. However,it might be slightly confusing for those who intend to watch in a group and munch popcorns at home. Not a light-hearted show at all.

synopsis from http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1135487/synopsis

Julia Roberts working for the CIA and Clive Owen working for MI6 play competing undercover corporate high level top secret business spies who may or may not be conning each other. The movie shows us what lenghts mega corporations will try and go to keep their new product information out of the hands of their competitors. The spys in this case will not even acknowledge their relationship as a sly parallel to regular relationships. The implication here is that most people do not say or trust themselves in relationships, but as spies Julia and Clive have good reason to be wary. Multi continent travels, many plot twists and counter twists follow. The music is light locations are beautiful and evokes the Ocean’s movies and fun is had by all even if you can’t always follow the plot.

Exhibitions
The Unguarded Moment by Steve McCurry
19 Jun 2009 – 19 Jul 2009
@ Shaw Foundation Foyer, ACM Empress Place

We started excitedly

We started excitedly

A museum trip was a great way to start the day,Janice and I were excited, especially I was,it was the very first thing that I planned to see the moment I touched down.Like a cliche, higher expectations leads to greater disappointment. The event was sponsored by Epson, who disappointed me,with the printing and the mounting /framing,well I guessed that HP did very good jobs with photo exhibition, the most prominent ones being Russell Lee at SAM(Singapore Art Museum) years old,but the HP prints were really impressive.

Suddenly, the everyone was impressed by this Afghan girl. She was a big hit,in fact, personally, she was his big hit.Like marriage, you need diligence ,faith ,fate and techniques/skills.Diligence for having so many tries, faith for not giving up ,fate for meeting the right person at the right time, skill to captivate and capture the person in the way you wanted.Like I need faith to continue to be diligent enough to continue dating so that I have the fate to meet the right man at the right time and to captivate his attention and capture him to make him mine.

After Steve McCurry successfully married her into his photography life ,published June 1985( not too sure of the month),he became a member of Magnum Photos in 1986.So,has the marriage bought him the peak of his career?I would jolly well bless it with a toast!

Steve McCurry has always been inspiration to me,he was introduced to me by my professional photographer friend ,who was then just an poly grad who bought his first DSLR,he told me,if you love India and photography so much, you should check him out.I was dumbfounded. His pictures were spiritual, soulful, serene and spelt simplity.I had found my idol.Steve McCurry.

I contemplated, did my finances, one day, after my second India trip,I realised that I needed a DSLR,I needed to be an active member of Steve McCurry worshipper.

From: http://www.acm.org.sg/exhibitions/eventdetail.asp?eventID=506
As a photographer, Steve McCurry is sustained by the rhythms of everyday life: the routines of herding and fishing; the chanting of prayers and the hawking of wares. His first solo exhibition in Singapore, The Unguarded Moment is suggestive of the vast tapestry of human experience and his chance encounters with silhouette and shadow, water and light, spire and sky.

This exhibition hopes to create a visceral sense of the beauty and wonder he is confronted with during his travels of over 30 years throughout Asia, when the shock of the strange rubs against the delight of the familiar. The Unguarded Moment presents a selection of Steve McCurry’s iconic photographs such as the “Afghan Girl” alongside unpublished, never before seen photographs captured throughout his photographic career.

Admission to this exhibition is FREE.THANK GOD,its free, its just a 15 min walk

Stars:1/5 ( pictures on the internet seems better, better in quality and greater in quantity)

seeing is believing, this exhibition is an understatement.

This synopsis contains spoilers
Based on the books “Confessions of a Shopaholic” and “Shopaholic Takes Manhattan” by Sophie Kinsella. Rebecca Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) is a 25 year old who lives with her best friend Suze (Krysten Ritter) in Suze’s flat (paying her friend rent that is well below market value), in a trendy part of town. Rebecca has a very boring job writing for a financial magazine. She has a shopping addiction and her crap job doesn’t pay enough. Her bills are piling up, so she tries cutting back (complete fiasco), then she tries making more money (another fiasco). Eventually, Becky discovers a story that she is truly invested in. Exposing the story gets the attention of a colleague that she hasn’t quite figured out yet. Some drama ensues as she snags the guy, and she attempts to pay off her ever-growing debt.

Zoolander

Zoolander

My friends and I were having a great time watching Confession of a Shopaholics, munching on birthday cakes and stuff, when we inserted another DVD in the famous Zoolander. While jokes were in the air,I could not really understand the great mystery about the Malaysian Prime Minister issues in the male modeling world

Ame: You wait and see..he is a Chinese?
Me:Anwar is a Chinese?
Shiling: Haiz,u missed the beginning
Me:Oki,the every changing Malaysia Prime Minister ,chances of being a chinese a high.

Finally, the Malaysia Prime Minister was a Chinese man in a yellow cheong fu,super Chinese,it was hilarious.

My favourite part of the show was at the end, where his dead 3 male models turned into fountains statues. It takes a sharp eye to notice but the rounding up was good.HILARIOUS!

plot summary
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0196229/plotsummary
Derek Zoolander is VH1’s three time male model of the year, but when Hansel wins the award instead, Zoolander’s world becomes upside down. His friends disappear, his father is disappointed in him, and he feels that he’s not good as a model anymore. But when evil fashion guru Mugato hires Zoolander, he thinks his life has turned back round again, that is until he finds out that Mugato has actually brainwashed him to kill the Prime Minister of Malaysia. Can Zoolander and his new friends find out how to prevent the incident before it’s too late? Written by FilmFanUK

By favourite quotes:

Maury Ballstein: What do we do when we fall off the horse?
Derek Zoolander: [thoughtfully looking up and mouthing the words silently] … fall off the horse…
Maury Ballstein: [looking to supply finish] … we… get back on!
Derek Zoolander: Sorry, Maury. I’m not a gymnast.

Licia Lee: Life in List

June 11, 2009

It was just some random blabbering of my yet-another WOW amazement at some new and upcoming genre ‘listography’ to Eeson,he took a mental note of it and told the others about it.Having planted the idea in their head, they tried to offer me a listography book as a birthday pressie,as it was currently out of stock,I refused, ,hoping to save them some dosh by saying ‘ Use $$ to buy one,i dun wana’ as they+Kua(Kua had given me a book on France culture already) had treated me to a fantastic dinner, some super nice cakes and a most of all some royalty treatment.

‘Use $$ to buy one,i buay gien.’
‘What if its made by us?’
‘Make then make lah!’

Bay headspeared the project with Cheri ,Bin and Eeson by completing before her baby was delievered, its heart-warming to know that she was rushing the project so that I could get it before I fly and before her daughter was born.

I never thought that they would take my words for real.REAL FRIENDS ,you never know how real they can be.
For this, I’m fully touched.I am blessed not with wealth but the richness of what friendship .For now its all good, hopefully we may be friends for the rest of our lives,I rather believe in this beautiful moment ,that it exists and its for me to treasure and to work on.THANK YOU MY FRIENDS! You have made me believe that friendship among colleagues and ex-colleagues exist. Its beautiful and should never be taken for granted.

Yes,I have rewarded myself well by having an empty slot in the middle of the day,but it alright I was in Borders super duper early and was standing there, guarding the entrance of the door like a door bitch, holding a book as a prop while glaring at the door, without letting a fly escape from my sight.Because,I m so excited, someone very important and nice to me was going to arrive! My oldest best friend from Primary 1,airflown from Maldives(+ her bf airflown from Paris) as she has been working there for about 2 yrs.

My oldest best friend (PH)did not arrive, yet I saw ‘mother hen’ first,if u know her,u know her,’mother hen’ spurred up the excitement in me.Soon, I saw my oldest best friend running to me.She was really like a bundle of spring flowers+ full of paper bags strapped around her.It was just so great to see her and her bf.We shopped around Borders!,PH with lotsa paper bags and bags all over her, was looking like a warrior running around, they really bought many books in a short time.

My old best friend ,since Primary 1,my idol too…DELF C1 + super workaholic+super careerwoman,I know I will never be that workaholic and climb the success ladder that fast.If there is someone who truly deserves the success,it got to be her!

Time flew….we parted…

I miss her so so much!Time with her is always so short.

alors,
Dites-moi, pourquoi la vie est belle…

Parce que vous etes la….

A very disjointed link of beautiful sentences and quotable quotes, disjointed by the multiple interventions of intensive stories. The garden walk consist of story A(18th century:a Mdm de T with her young one-night stand Chevalier to fake as her lover, while her real lover, a certain Marquis actually was able to bump into the Chevaliar and understood the happening incident the night before and of coz here’s her real husband who actually excused himself and left them alone) Story B (20th century:some scientists+assistants+social gathering which seemingly danced out an orgy between them)Story C (the writer and his wife Vera.Almost a hardsell of a variety of ideas linking up in someway with are too complicated to be taken seriously.

The book started and ended well with beautiful proses.

Characters:
Lolita Cassard-I seriously think that she is inflicting her physical insecurity on to everyone, she is the main character of the show and her emotions can really turns every helping heart into wraths. She is terrible even though she has a spontenously nice soul and a kind heart, her frequent mood swings and inferority complex is taking a toil on everyone.I know a person who is like that. The only good thing about my gf is that she tries to slim down but most of the time I assume that she thinks its her right of way after she has identified the cause of her emotional downswing. For example,XXXXXX ,I am offended. You wont understand me’
Getting a little personal here;no one will understand anyone fully, lets be thankful for the person who sincerely tried to help and not create more tension, soon no one will try to understand you.Identifying your own emotion is not a battle won ,changing perspective is one part of the battle , only by improving the situation will the battle be won.

The character(Lolita) in the story did not try to improve her own situation but to create more grudges.I do not like her at all.( Due the the close resemblance of the character and my gf,Lolita makes the show rather unbearable

Karine Cassard and Sylvia Millet-very positive wife ,very giving.I like them.
Étienne Cassard-Etienne has developed an immunity to Lolita’s endless complexes as he himself is a self-centred,blunt guy who treats Karine bluntly

Pierre Millet-a nice guy with a looser mindset ,he is gaining some recognition after he began mixing around with Étienne

Sebastian-One nice guy, reminds me of my gf’s husband, just that Sebastian is a nicer guy than my gf’s hubby

i shall not rate this show as I m getting quite personal here

together,it will be just so PRICELESS

the official poster for the show

The dress that looks so good from the front

The dress that looks so good from the front

Exciting parts, strangely, there were parts when i felt excited, true excitement and anixety for the couple.

for trailer

for NG moments

The show is simple, somehow could be realistic, we could really go hoping for a guy(most probably old and rich) for grabs and spend so much dosh on you for a few days,no doubt the “Cinderalla’ dream is still there, sadly,it comes with good looks and hardwork.Apart from this, there are some parts of the show who I find unrealistic ,especially with the baggages that she carries as she moves hotel to hotel.Where is the truck that she had when she was with the white dress? The way they sneak out is incredibly frequent,i feel somehow excited for them, even though there is no big and exciting effects.Due to Irene’s materialism ,it is compared to Breakfast at Tiffany.Apart from the nice clothes and the pretty face.My favourite line was Irene asking Jean for the time ,he replied ‘9 diamants et quart’.That moment was sheer apt,I like the way the show is PRICELESS!!

je voudrais…je aimerais…
